On August 14, 2026, Canada announced new sanctions against five individuals under the Special Economic Measures (Iran) Regulations. The new measures entered into force on August 14, 2026. See the news release.

The specific prohibitions are set out in the Regulations Amending the Special Economic Measures (Iran) Regulations.

Regulations Amending the Special Economic Measures (Iran) Regulations

Whereas the Governor in Council is of the opinion that the actions of the Islamic Republic of Iran constitute a grave breach of international peace and security that has resulted or is likely to result in a serious international crisis;

Therefore, Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, makes the annexed Regulations Amending the Special Economic Measures (Iran) Regulations under paragraph 4(1)(a)^a and subsections 4(1.1)^b, (2)^c and (3) of the Special Economic Measures Act^d.

Amendment

1 Part 2 of Schedule 1 to the Special Economic Measures (Iran) Regulations¹ is amended by adding the following in numerical order:

111. Ali Abdollahi (born in 1959) (also known as Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi)
112. Ebrahim Zolfaghari
113. Ebrahim Azizi (born on June 22, 1963)
114. Hamid Hosseini
115. Shahram Irani (born in 1967)

Application Before Publication

Coming into Force

3 These Regulations come into force on the day on which they are registered.
