May 11, 2026: Global Affairs Canada adds to Russia sanctions


On May 11th, 2026, Canada announced new sanctions under the  Special Economic Measures (Russia) Regulations to deter, expose, and condemn human rights violations committed by Russian authorities and their local collaborators during Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine by imposing costs on those involved in the unlawful deportation, forcible transfer, indoctrination, and militarization of Ukrainian children. The new measures entered into force on May 8th, 2026. See the news release here.

Canada strongly condemns Russia’s actions and is sanctioning an additional 23 individuals and five entities involved in the violations against Ukrainian children.

The specific prohibitions are set out in Regulations Amending the Special Economic Measures (Russia) Regulations.
